    Brief Description of the system

The BN-City®Complex system is a hardware-software complex based on the "client-server" technology with occasional use of WEB-technologies and consisting of:
  • Telematic server
  • BNTM
  • Complex software for telematic server
  • GIS server
  • Basic software (CyberFleet®/ M2M-CityBus/ M2M -Home Guard) of the dispatcher’s workstation
  • Electronic vector cards
  • Subscriber terminals.
The enterprise vehicles are fitted with modern navigation-communication and telematic equipment that permits round-the-clock monitoring of navigation and technical parameters of various types of vehicles.
The total volume of navigation and technical information received from the vehicles being tracked is fed to the telematic server, stored in the data base (MS SQL or Interbase) and sent to the dispatch station.
Special basic software installed at the dispatcher’s workstation uses electronic vector multi-layer maps of the terrain (maps in standard MapInfo format can be connected) reflecting with high resolution the current location of the vehicles independently of the location.
The flexible tuning used in the software and easy-to-use interfaces simplify information processing and control, make it possible to compile graphs and reports at any moment (in MS Office formats) or to send information to the user’s other information systems (for example, 1C).
Some components of the system may be used on request of the client, but the overall structure remains unchanged.

    Main Functions of the system

The main functions of the BN-City®Complex system can be divided into three groups:
  • tracking functions, control functions and information storage, linkup with external information systems (IS).

    Tracking Functions

  • automatic determination of the objects navigation parameters (geographic coordinates, movement speed, azimuth, elevation above sea level)
  • automatic determination of the objects status from readings of meters (switch-on of ignition, opening of doors, alarm signal, lifting of body, operation of piggy-back and additional equipment, change of temperature regime, speeding, level of liquids in tanks and canisters, etc)
  • automatic transmission of navigation and other information about objects to dispatch stations at fixed time intervals (20 seconds)
  • automatic transmission of reports to dispatching stations on change of the state of the objects when meters and gauges are actuated (driver pressing alarm button, change of additional equipment operation mode, prolonged idle time of object, entry of object into a certain zone and exit from it)
  • automatic entry of navigation information and information on the status of the objects into the subscriber terminal’s independently powered memory when communication channels are lost, with subsequent dispatch of recorded data automatically or at dispatcher’s request
  • automatic tracking of vehicle on the route and schedule of movement with alarm message in case of deviations
  • possibility to target individual objects to track their movement and status in real time
  • graphic display of location and parameters of the object on vector electronic maps of the terrain
  • display of data on the location and state of objects in text form in the shape of tables
  • display of emergency messages on change of status at dispatch stations in the shape of alarm windows with a warning signal

    Control Functions

  • display of control zones for tracking vehicle movement on electronic maps
  • monitoring and analysis of actual mileage of vehicles within set stretches of time
  • transmission of dispatcher’s commands to vehicle devices (blocking of engine, turning on alarm signals, summoning the driver, control of additional equipment)
  • voice communication between dispatcher and objects
  • automatic logging of all the actions carried out at dispatch stations

Functions of Information Storage and Integration with External IS

  • storage of information in the single data base (MS SQL or InterBase)
  • transformation of information into a format compatible with the user’s IS
  • exchange of data with user IS
  • creation of data bases in user archive format

    Telematic server

The telematic server is a server hardware unit with installed server software connected to the Internet through an awarded static IP address. Universal architecture combined with simple operating algorithms and high handling capacity of the telematic server make it possible to connect to the system up to a thousand subscriber terminals without an appreciable decline in the system speed as a whole. To enhance the reliability of the data flows may be duplicated on an analogous standby server.

Main Functions of the Telematic server

Establishment of links with TS and dispatch stations:
  • sending text messages and operational control commands from TS
  • receiving and processing text messages and operational control commands coming from the system user
  • receiving and processing of navigation and telematic parameters, text messages and automatic confirmation of operational control command fulfillment from TS
  • Relay to dispatch stations of current and archive navigation and telematic parameters of the vehicle
  • Information storage in a single data base (MS SQL or InterBase)
  • Compiling of reports at the request of dispatcher stations
  • Converting information into a format compatible with the user IS
  • Exchange of data with user IS
  • Compiling data bases in user archive format
  • Storage and distribution of information from electronic terrain map data base (GIS)

    Dispatching Station

The dispatch Station is the dispatcher’s workstation: the workstation (computer), with installed CyberFleet® specialized software.
The workstations may be both inside the local enterprise network and outside, with connection via the Internet. When only periodic tracking of the vehicle fleet operation is needed (for example, for the top executives of agencies) simplified versions of dispatch stations may be connected to the telematic server with the use of WEB-technologies or mobile communication networks.

    Equipment for the System

The navigation equipment in AT is receivers of the Global navigation systems GLONASS/GPS which permit high-accuracy tracking of location and navigation parameters (speed, direction, elevation above sea level) of vehicles using navigation satellite signals.
At present the BN-City®Complex system supports the following types of equipment:
  • subscribers’ GSM/GPS navigation and communication terminal BN-City GXP.
  • subscribers’ telematic GSM/GLONASS/GPS telematic terminal M2M-Cyber GLX.
In addition, the following types of peripheral devices can be connected to the BN-City®Complex system:
  • fuel level gauge: intended to measure the level of fuel in the vehicle fuel tank
  • temperature gauge: to measure air temperature inside the driver’s cabin and the vehicle body and to measure outside temperature
  • buzzer: device to summon the driver
  • alarm button: secretly installed button for the driver to send alarm signal to the dispatch center
  • voice communication: microphone and speaker set for voice communication with the driver from the dispatch center
  • security video: a compact video camera installed in the driver’s cabin or in the vehicle body
  • LC display unit: receives text message from the dispatch center

    Economic Effect

The economic effect of the BN-City®Complex system has been calculated on the basis of the statistical monitoring data received from BusinessNavigator®systems introduced at the enterprises of the clients of the "M2M telematics" company.

    Fuel Oil Lubricants Economy

On the basis of statistical data one can expect fuel consumption to drop by up to 15%. For a fleet of 30 vehicles with an average monthly mileage of 4000 km fuel consumption (given the norm of 25 l/100 km) is 30,000 liters of fuel per month, which, given the average price of 16.5 rubles per liter, amounts to 495,000 rubles a month. The reduction will amount to 75,000 rubles.

    Reduction of mileage

Assuming the average monthly mileage of vehicles equal to 120,000 km the expected reduction will be up to 10%, i.e. by 12,000 km. Reduction of mileage also cuts the cost of fuel (by up to 50,000 rubles a month), increases intervals between maintenance of vehicles and reduces depreciation. The expected economic effect from reduced mileage is 50,000-60,000 rubles a month.
Reduction of vehicle idle time . According to available data vehicle idle time will drop by up to 20% on the period before the start of the project.
Effective labour organization. The introduction of the system makes it unnecessary to hire additional staff, reduces the load of the current staff while substantially improving their performance and the speed of preparing data.
