02.02.09 M2M telematics presents a GLONASS-based system the IOC Commission in Sochi
|
On the 31st of January, leaders of the Russian government met with the
International Olympic Committee Commision, which monitors the preparation for
the Winter Olympics of 2014. During the visit, Jean-Claude Killy, the head of
the IOC coordination commission, was shown the preparations made in Sochi’s
transportation infrastructure for the Olympics. He was given presentations
concerning construction of a state-of-the-art highway around Sochi
(Dzhugba-Sochi), a plan for transportation infrastructure development, as well
as the introduction of an automated system of monitoring and dispatching of
motor transport in the town of Sochi based on the latest GLONASS technologies.
It was the Russian Federation Transport Minister Igor Levitin, who personally
reported to Vladimir Putin and Jean-Claude Killy on the ways that the new
technologies contribute to getting ready for the Olympics, adding that all the
vehicles engaged in construction, preparation and realization of the Games would
have GLONASS-based equipment installed on them. As the Vesti
news program put it, «Sochi is a kind of a «postcard» of the entire Russian
economy, and of the whole partnership between the private sector and the
state».
The ASMD project is an example of such private-public
partnership. The day before, a news conference was held in Sochi, where the
journalists were given a presentation of a joint project of the Sochi
Administration and M2M telematics
– «Automated System of Monitoring and Dispatching of the Sochi Motor Transport»
(ASMD). The objectives of ASMD implementation include: ensuring centralized
monitoring, dispatching and control of motor transport in the resort town of
Sochi, ensuring safe passenger and cargo transportation, increasing economic
efficiency of transportation and use of vehicles and raising the quality of
transportation services provided to the town’s citizens and guests.
The
first stage of the project has been completed: the buses of the MUP
SochiAvtotrans and MUP Lazarevskoye municipal enterprises, the public utility
vehicles of MUP SAKh are now equipped with M2M-Cyber GLX user
terminals receiving and processing GLONASS satellite navigation system signals.
Dispatcher stations of these enterprises are equipped to work with M2M-CityBus
software.
