Prime Minister Vladimir Putin received an unusual gift – the first GLONASS-enabled tracking collar for his dog. The order for the dog collar development was placed by RNII KP FGUP with M2M telematics, Ltd.

The dog collar is intended for dog movements tracking in real-time mode using data fed to owner’s mobile device (hand-held computer, notebook or communicator). A small navigation module installed in the collar helps the owner position the dog. The module receives signals from GLONASS system and transfers them through GSM channel to a dedicated server. Thus, the owner will always know where the dog is.

The pet owner has several options to track the dog. The data on the dog position may be fed to a hand-held computer or communicator. To get such information go to CyberWeb® at www.m2m-t.ru. More detailed information may be obtained by using CyberFleet® software installed at a PC or notebook.

There are several dog collar versions, which differ in terms of battery life and autonomous operation time. Thus, the owners may select the optimal version for their pets. A number of unique solutions were used in the tracking dog collar, for instance, a three-axis acceleration indicator, which improves the consumer properties of the new product. Apart from that, the owner will be able to track the dog’s movements in real-time mode.

According to Alexander Gurko, M2M telematic Director General, the new dog collar represents just one of many potential GLONASS technology application in various market segments. He said: «We have developed a number of GLONASS-based solutions for personal cars, commercial vehicles, special and agricultural equipment, as well as for public transport. However, the development of a device for individual users is a unique experience in the field of telematics. The employed solution can be further used to develop mass products both for government agencies and consumers».

Evgeniy Belyanko, M2M telematics, Ltd. Chief Designer, said: «The advanced technological platform developed by our company helped us create a unique small-sized GLONASS-enabled portable device with independent power supply. This enables us to develop entirely new types of equipment, which will convey the advantages of GLONASS to consumers».

Despite the growing interest in navigation systems and plans for such systems’ deployment announced by a number of countries, GLONASS remains one of the two efficiently operating global navigation systems.
