Innovative GLONASS technologies, part of the Moscow Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) initiative, were demonstrated to Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Presentation took place during the opening ceremony of the first transport interchange hub at Moscow’s Planernaya metro station. Implementation of GLONASS-based transit monitoring system was carried out by Federal Network Provider JSC Navigation-Information Systems.

Transport interchange hub includes a bus terminal with a departure lounge, a covered pedestrian passage between metro station and passenger platforms, supermarkets, and a car parking facility.

Planned Mass Transit Zone Control Center at Planernaya will be one of the three in Moscow, monitoring both Mosgortrans public bus and commercial carrier traffic. All vehicles will be equipped with GLONASS-based navigation devices, allowing their movements to be tracked in real-time and effectively summon and direct emergency services to the scene when necessary.

Passenger information services, shown to Sergey Sobyanin, consists of more than 20 displays, installed at the bus terminal platforms and inside the building, with real-time information on bus routes, schedules, and precise arrival times. Public transport timetables are also available on the website and through mobile applications.

M2M Telematics Group acted as JSC Navigation-Information Systems’ technology partner in GLONASS system implementation project at Planernaya transport interchange hub.

Planernaya is presently running in a testing mode; its’ overall area is 51,000 square meters. Nearby is a 600-car 21,000 square meter parking facility. Interchange hub’s capacity is 15,000 passengers an hour.
